The Spiff Interview Q: What gave you the idea of using yoghurt in the Opening assembly? BILL: I've always thought of yoghurt as being a very friendly substance, unlike say dynamite or nicotine. Q:But why yoghurt in particular? I mean, you could have used instant coffee, for example. BILL: I suppose I could have used almost anything edible, except of course meat, which is an artistic faux-pas. But what you have to remember is that the public really do feel a stong empathy towards yoghurt. Q: Have you ever tried it in the bath? BILL: The problem is confusing it with the soap. That and it get into places you'd rather it didn't. Q: Yes I see. BILL: And of course there's the smell. Apart from that, it's almost the perfect medium for self-expression. I used nearly 500kg of yoghurt in "Beside a Cowshed". Q: I was going to ask about your forthcoming projects. What sort of thing can we expect next year? BILL: I'm planning to do Lord Snooty's poisonous exploding hat in a bowl of crushed digestive biscuits with Christ laughing hysterically at two giraffes diving into a bowl of gingerbread soup filled with lilac blossom and motorcars and French wine and parsley underpants with gorillas' handkerchiefs and three pounds of fresh bananas toiling melodiously in a pram. Q: Really? BILL: No.
