Apply melodic patterns to your scales so they sound more like music than scales when you improvise. Covers 3rds, 4 in a line and more. Taught by Justin Sandercoe (Guitar Institute Instructor, Katie Melua Band). Big Thanks to Jedi Master for filming and editing :) Support notes can be found at www.justinguitar.com.

Volker Scheidt/Electric guitar school
freiburg http://www.e-gitarrenschule-freiburg.de
Professional guitar teaching in Freiburg/ Germany
This video is about being creative.
You see the result of a project
" creative force" i started.
The aim was to create on the spot
a great melody while the camera
was running...
Most of the stuff is very simple
so relax.
1. Laid back Latin jam with some Ace Freyley pentatonic licks.
Here i used the whammy pedal.
2. some cool legato sounds.
the sound is slighly reversed.
3. funky dorian rock jamming.
4. Here is a short example of the more
fusion type of melodys i like.
When i was younger i composed on a sequencer and then tried to play that strange stuff.Frank Gambale you are the best!
Tons of fun.
5.In the dead of night from Allan Holdsworth
One of my all time favorite licks.
6.Love gun from Kiss.
Just something to relax.
7.here is a nice melody from steely dan.
just for a contrast.
8.some melodic improvising on my white Steve Vai "jem"
-first in the style of Tony Mcalpine
-then some rock "Blues"
very simple stuff
9.one again a nice little melody
10.a melody over a key changing chord progression.
Here i play a lot with the whammy bar
11.this melody i really love. It's played against a John Petrucci chord progression.once again very simple
12.some speedy metal jamming.
Normally when i pick up the guitar i sound like this ( check the mind boggeling hyperspeed guitar video)
"Salute to my beloved John petrucci guitar"
All those melodys created on the spot.
when i found a nice backing track ,i put on the camera and started working.
so: be creative and spontanous.
challenge yourself and keep it simple!!
good luck and all the best!
Volker

http://HapiTones.com a couple quick recordings of the HAPI Drum, recorded with an SM-57 microphone, without any sound processing.
Can anyone play a HAPI? Sure! Anyone who wants an easy to play intuitive instrument can play one. You don't need a musical background to enjoy it. The HAPI is ideal for jamming and playing percussive beats. The drum head layout makes it easy to jump right into grooving rhythms. Enjoy creating a soothing harmonic journey with your HAPI. You will love being able to add a melodic component to your beats. An intuitive arrangement to the notes makes it easy to explore new musical horizons. The strong meditative tones are calming and great for relaxing anytime, or kick it up a notch and play hard and fast. And because of its compact design you can take it outside and enjoy it in nature. Your next camping trip will not be complete without a HAPI time around the campfire. The HAPI is just as comfortable outside in the park, as it is in the music studio.
And if happen to already enjoy playing the Hang Drum, Hank and other variations, you might want to add a HAPI to you herd of instruments :)

Melodic guitar dreams/The most melodic guitar style of Volker Scheidt
(Please help me to send this video around.
I will do the same for you!
Thanks!!!)
Hi folks
The last video was about ripping and burning so this one is about playing emotional and from your heart.
Intro: some minor sweep arpeggios about an Yngwie Malmsteen backingtrack.
1: e-bow playing about an Dire Staits backingtrack.Try this at home. This is really fun.
There are so many guitar sounds you can use.Open your mind.
2.a sweet little guitar melody about an Ionian chordprogression.
Here i switch the guitars for different sounds.
3.just some fast picking stuff for a different texture
-Malmsteen runs and Gary Moore major 7th arpeggios: check End of the world
4. very smooth and relaxed playing over an Randy Rhoads(natural minor) backingtrack.
this one is about playing without a net.
It's sometimes dirty and not perfect but i feel the notes.
That's what i want.
Feeling the notes.
I don't care about anything else.
5.Here I'm going back to the main melody and added some runs.
All that stuff was improvised. It is just an impression of one day in my life.
When i played this melody i was thinking about all the friends who supported me about the last year.
Thanks so much.
We together make the guitar stronger than ever!
HaHa
Before i forget there is also a hidden bonus sound at the end.
Really crazy.
Hope you had some fun with it.
I did this right before i started teaching and after i finished teaching i recorded the e-bow parts.
So: This was a very long day.
Please rate and comment and make sure to Rock!
Volker

Played & written by Corey Hunter.
This track features some octave melody atmospheres and just a tincy wincy bit of shred : )
I used my Line 6 Toneport UX-1 to write & arrange everything, though the lead guitar was performed using my Peavey Bandit 112 with a 'scooped' sort of tone.

Excerpt from Steve Herberman's Master Class "Melodic Embesllishment" on www.mikesmasterclasses.com - available for download. Wes Montgomery, Johnny Hodges, Ben Webster, and Louis Armstrong were true masters of the art of melodic embellishment. In this class well look at the techniques utilized by these jazz greats and others who excelled at melodic invention on the popular songs of the day.
Developing strong skills in melodic embellishment is one of the most important ways to truly connect with a song. It is also very effective as a springboard for improvisation while still maintaining the essence of the song. Topics that will be addressed will be guide tone lines, countermelodies, leading improvised lines into melody notes or chord tones, approach note patterns with target tones and upper and lower neighbor tones, ornamentation, musical asides, rhythmic displacement, and more. Common standard tunes will be used with pages of written examples outlining different types of melodic embellishment principles. Many of the techniques discussed in the class are also applicable to improvised single note soloing where target tones or goal notes are employed. At the end of the class these principles will be demonstrated in a polyphonic manner using 2 and 3 note structures where melodic embellishment meets modern harmony.
