Another apocalyptic montage, made in the summer of 2005. This was the prelim opening sequence of the apocalypse film that we never made. Not exactly the best thing we've ever done, but it's okay I guess.

The Last Emperor, a 1987 film directed by Bernardo Bertolucci documenting the life of China's last emperor Aisin-Gioro Puyi, who was the 12th emperor of the Manchurian Empire that conquered China and ruled between 1644 to 1911. Puyi became emperor in 1908 but was forced to abdicate after the Republic of China was established in 1912. Puyi was later expelled from the Forbidden Palace in 1924 and later became a Japanese puppet emperor of Manchukuo between 1932 until 1945 when Japan was defeated in WWII. Puyi was captured by the Soviet Russians and expatriated to the now Communist China in 1950 where he spent 10 years in re-education camp. He died of cancer in 1967 during the Cultural Revolution. Note: This video is intended for people who have already seen the movie. Some scenes that might need clarifying: Optometrist: "The emperor needs spectacles" Puyi: "Like Harold Llyod" Eastern Jewel: "I even know his nickname (Chiang Kai-shek), Cash my cheque." Emperor penguins breed in the heart of the Antarctic winter when temperatures reach -60°C -- cold enough to make human skin freeze and teeth crack. They waddle and toboggan for up to 60km across the frozen sea to reach their breeding colonies, where they huddle tightly together to keep warm. After egg-laying, all the females return to the ocean to feed, leaving each male carefully balancing a single egg on his feet, warming it in a special pouch on his belly. The male starves for up to 16 weeks as he waits for hatching, through the endless night of the Antarctic winter -- yet he still manages to feed his newly hatched chick, using a special milk-like substance made by the breakdown of his own body tissue. But will his mate return in time to take over, before his growing hunger forces him to abandon the egg?
