The film was shot in 1904 as a 'travelogue' for Australians curious about life in what was "one of the most exciting cities anywhere", according to Professor Ian Christie.
He discovered the 12 minute reel while trawling through archives in Canberra.

We stood upon the heath, the astronomer and I,
Counting parasols, watching couples cycle by,
Suburban streets were still when someone cried aloud,
And at that moment I looked up the war machines broke cloud.
Airships filled the skies above our heads,
The sky was dark and fires blushed it red.
A low hum filled the air as they turned towards the town,
Their bombs destroyed the bandstand and sent statues to the ground.
Craters marked the common, rubble, smoke and flame,
Someone fired a pistol in anger and in vain.
Stunned he walked to Maida Vale and on reaching my front door,
The astronomer said without a qualm "You know this must mean war".
Airships filled the skies above our heads,
the sky was dark and fires blushed it red,
Airships filled the sky, blacked out the sun,
The old world died, a new age had begun.

This Edwardian Butler can't wait to greet your Halloween guests! Life-size (6ft tall), with a ghoulishly green skin-tone and deep-set eyes, this sound and motion activated butler has the look of the undead. Dressed in splendidly spooky attire he holds a platter to offer eerie Halloween treats and refreshments to your guests as his head turns, his eyes shift from side to side, he breathes heavily in and out (chest rises and falls), groans and laughs and speaks various Halloween phrases:
Ahh youve arrived, come right in!
Good evening, the masters been expecting you.
So glad you could make it!
Good evening, wonderful to see you here this evening.
Thank you for joining us this evening, I hope I may be of some service.
Collapses for easy storage and comes with a removable top hat with long black hair. This amazingly detailed and life-like prop would make a great addition to any haunted house to scare your party guests or spook any unsuspecting trick-or-treaters!

AN EDWARDIAN Day came to Ainsdale on Saturday, when the town evoked a lost world of empire.
Children donned their finest 'Cowboys and Indians' attire for the parade, a firm favourite with visitors to the event.
The crowds thronged the pavements of the pretty village, with funfair rides for the children, stalls and live music. Sefton Schools Brass Ensemble and Ainsdale C of E Primary School both performed, and both excelled.

Footage from the dawn of the film age: sea bathing, Edwardian beachwear, strolling along the prom and riding the rollercoaster in this view of 1904 Folkestone.
No singing of 'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside' though. It wasn't written until 1907.
