A verdadeira situação no mundo que todos ignoram!

Diariamente morrem à fome dois milhões de pessoas, diziam esta tarde os Telejornais. A fome mata mais que a Sida, a malária e a tuberculose, diziam também os telejornais. Hoje, comemora-se o Dia Mundial da Alimentação e as Nações Unidas publicaram estes números. Assustadores. Amanhã, comemorar-se-á o Dia Mundial pela Erradicação da Pobreza e as Nações Unidas irão publicar, certamente, outros números. Igualmente assustadores. Entretanto, podemos respirar. Ainda bem que há dias Mundiais de coisas. Para nos fazerem pensar. Já está. Que alívio. Para o ano há mais. Ainda bem que só existem uma vez por ano. Há coisas em que não de deve pensar demasiado.

In a prison cell decorated by his own faeces he foments one of the most potent challenges to Margaret Thatcher's tenure as Prime Minister. He decides to starve himself to death. I can't describe what this actor goes through. The 24 minute single shot debate in a prison visiting room with a parish priest about the reasons why is pure Oscar. The starvation is an unspeakable horror. The formality of the film is totally unsettling. In fact it's poetry. Utopias Oficialmente as utopias estão mortas, mas a realidade que as alimentou e justificou durante séculos continua bem viva. As desigualdades em todo o mundo, desde o "triunfo" do liberalismo nos anos oitenta, são cada vez maiores. O esbanjamento de recursos nos países mais ricos está a conduzir a humanidade para a sua própria extinção. Como refere Peter Singer, bastava que nestes países, se deixassem de alimentar os animais domésticos à base de cereais e de soja, e estes alimentos fossem distribuídos pelos necessitados, para se pôr fim à fome no mundo.
